New for the holiday season is the I Am T-Pain Microphone. This battery operated microphone comes in a number of funky designs, with features designed to alter your voice, let you rap over a beat, or record your creations to share with friends.
What Is The T-Pain Effect?
The T-Pain effect is a specific style of singing used by the rapper T-Pain. A talk-box effect over his singing makes it sound very electronic, a style that's become popular with kids and adults since it came out in the “I Am T-Pain” iPhone app. The I Am T-Pain Microphone is designed to do the same thing: alter your voice in real time to make you sound like T-Pain himself!

Is The I Am T-Pain Microphone Worth Buying?
The main concern any parent will have is whether this is going to get boring quickly. In truth, the T-Pain Microphone does the real-time voice changing very well, but most of us would get bored simply singing into a microphone.
The best thing about the mic is that it comes with three different beats included, and various beat effects. This means that kids don't just have the option to sing into the mic, they also have the option to play the beat in the background and either sing or rap over it. It's great fun trying to come up with your own rhymes on the fly! When kids get bored of the three included beats, they can upload more from their computer or sing along to MP3 files.
The I Am T-Pain Microphone is generally easy to use. To get the auto-tune effect to work, you do have to continuously hold down the T-Pain effect button while you sing. This could be a little difficult for the youngest children, which is why this microphone is recommended for ages seven and above.
The unique thing about the I Am T-Pain Microphone is that adults love playing with it too. This probably explains why it's been listed on the Kmart Fab 15 list for the 2011 holidays: the whole family can have fun with this together.
If you've got a child into their singing, karaoke, rap music, pop music - anything, really - this is a fun gift for the holidays! It's especially good for inspiring creativity as kids create their own music, but be warned that the electronic vocal effect can become a little annoying for parents after listening to it for hours on end.
